robnz
I've had a pair of Clark's clownfish for about two months and they've been getting along fine. Yesterday I noticed them both twitching strangely for a few seconds at a time and then later that day the female chasing the male in a extremely aggressive manor. They also appeared to be biting at the rock work occasionally. The behaviour has continued today and the male is hiding whenever possible in the rock work or hovering vertically in one of the top corners of the tank. His anal, caudal and dorsal fins all look damaged. Is this normal pre spawning behaviour or something else?

ghostface
sounds pretty much like human breeding behaviour i have one of these fish, its only small but it seems really bossy. it bites me constantly when i have my hands in the tank. luckily its only about 3 inches long, but im not looking foward to it doing the same when its grown up. some sites list them as "semi-aggressive" toward other fish / clowns.. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=103&N=
suphew
Yep look forward to some eggs soon. They will be laid on the rock that they are cleaning by biting. (assuming the male is interested in doing his part). The sad news is that the babies are impractical (and almost impossible) to raise due to their feeding requirements and in a community tank will be live food for the other fish and corals. robnz
Don't think there will be eggs anytime soon, he doesn't want anything to do with her. My tang has taken to protecting him, but he's still not looking too flash.

Fay
If you have a sump put her in there for about a week that might cool her down, or buy a floating fish hatchery to put her in. Have you got a anemone?
gregb
That fish looks like its been bashed with a rolled up news paper.

robnz
He's in the sump for now, much happier, swimming round and eating. Not to sure how his reintroduction to the main tank will go though. Have two small BTA's, too small for the clowns to show any interest in. suphew
If you can take the female out and put her in the sump and the male back in the main tank (once he has recovered a bit), this will allow him time to get settled in and will put her on the back foot. I suggested this to a friend once and it would have worked really well, but his girl friend didn't like being locked in the basement
