raeh1
Well I moved the tank to finish the flooring. Now I am going to replace the tank, and stand, as it is 3-4 years old Old tank is 122cm(length)*46cm(deep)*38cm(wide) New tank is going to be 90cm(long)*60cm(deep)*50cm(wide) and I aim building the tank and stand myself. Will keep you updated... only have a week to build the whole thing.... (This time it will not be tools down when the surfs up)

raeh1
The glass is cut so will pick up tonight or tomorrow $193 all up including GST. Including drilling and 8mm glass All the stand has cost so far is $168 (including fittings) Stand is 1/4 finished at the moment with a 3-4 mm gap at the back due to miss calculations...   .. But I thought of the remedy today and will not effect its strength and will not be visible when tha tanks finished. I am taking photos but no time to put them up till the tank is running. raeh1
PS. does anyone have a bench saw. I need to make another 6 wood cuts... Six pack of beer in it for you..
HelifaxNZ
$193 sounds expensive. I'm sure Tanks4U could have done one made up for that or less.
raeh1
My quote from the goldfish bowl in Hamilton was around $340 made up, with no drilling . And I have gone hard with extra reforcing. Also Tank4U is away as far as I have heard. I needed the glass pronto so I took that into consideration. $193 was a one day turn around. I thought shopping around would of reduced the price but never mind.
suphew
$193 sound ok to me, the wholesale rate (i.e. direct from the maker and the same price as he sells to shops) is $1 per liter + holes, yours is 270l (if my calulater is right), so that price with holes but not glued up seem pretty right to me. raeh1
I just finished glueiing the tank..... After talking to Brainamemone I got the wholes made bigger. Then found out the guy who cut the glss was the guy I bought my wifes car off two years ago.... and the engine sh*****t itself two weeks later.. Lucky two years have past... if I had rebuilt my tank 18months ago I would have been a little happer to settle our differences outside... But two years have gone by and I am past it now... Anyway tanks glued and stand is half done. Still taking pics for you guys.... for once....

raeh1
Stand fished.. Tank is now filled, and in place. Just final touchs to go.. and aqua scaping. So far two lost corals and the anemone looks so ill.. As when puting them in the holding tank he went under a rock.. that I couldn't move/ get to without crushing fish/ star fish etc... then feel on his face for the last two days until I moved them back today.... or should I say 30 minutes ago... Still taking pics thought.. And plumbing to go..

raeh1
Well here are my design faults (there had to be when I built it so quick.... 1.On the back of the tank I put the drill holes around the right hand side instead of the left.. meaning more pumping... through to the sump. 2. The overflow glass is not square with the overflow lid by a 1.5cm. :-? Cose the glue for my bracing had dried before I realised. 3. A 2mm gap at the back of the stand on oneside. .. fixed now so impossible to tell. 4. Tried to cut up the old tank to make a sump...   .... just pay someone its easier... hence have ordered the sump glass now.. and have a temp. fix. 5. Lost two corals and one fish in the move 6. Placement of a structural support above the sump.. meaning I cannot put the skimmer in the sump.. so I still hear it humming along.. On the plus side the overflow is so silent all I can here is a tiny little rush of water... I don't know how I did it so well first pop..
