Richard
I am thinking to get a smaller tank..about 2 feet... and move some fish there.... and plant some plants as well.... what I want to know is... if I fill it up with water from my existing tank (say from a water change)... how long would the tank need to cycle? It'll speed things up a bit but it'd be better to use some gravel or media from your filter as well. Of course, the time taken will depend on the fish-load you intend for the new tank. Bio-filters vary depending on the current availability of nutrients for the bacteria. A tank that can support one small fish will not necessarily be able to cope with 20 new fish being added without having to 'cycle' to some degree again... Andrew. Goldie
totally agree with aj some gravel from existing tank, water from same place and if you could a filter that has been sitting in an existing tank for a couple of weeks. Then just a couple of inexpensive fish to test it all. Good luck. How is it all going for yu?
Richard
still hunting around for a well priced 2nd hand tank....
peety
You'd be surprised how cheap they are if you find someone who makes em and sells them to the fish shops... new, so you don't inherit leaks, or disease.... you also get to specify exact size for your stand and can get drilling done.... I had a couple of 700x400x500 made up for about $65 each.... which I reckon was pretty good.
