Cigar
Help with any of my questions would be great thanks. Just brought a fishtank (120L) 3 days ago that came with 10 coldwater goldfish the owner said it could probably take about 10 more, is this right or too many for the size of the tank? How much and how often should i replace water in the tank? Currently feeding floating pellets once a night (enough to last 10 mins) is this all the fish need to eat? Do i need to use the light at the top of the tank daily for a few hours? How often should i change the filters in the tank (currently got an under gravel filter that pumps water up through two tubes to the filter stones)? Is there somewhere i can send/post pictures of my fish to find out what sort/breed they are?
Billaney
Hi Welcome to the site , lots of great and very helpful people here. Your tank is 120L and you have 10 goldfish init already , thats pretty well stock to overflowing of course depending on the size but they grow fast so please do lots of reading before you go buy any more fish. It hard to say how over stocked it is without knowing the size of these guys but water changes of 20% weekly would be a good start and increase it to 30% as they get bigger or water condistion turn bad. Goldfish are very messy fish. You can use somewhere like photobucket.com to upload your pictures and then load to this site. Good luck and welcome again
mustcooktea
Finding this site is a good start to fishkeeping. You will find lots of helpful information and advice by using the search function and asking questions. In regards to feeding your goldfish, the goldfish pellets should be a good base diet for your fish. If you have any fancy goldfish with round tummies I would recommend soaking the food in tank water before feeding them as taking in air with their food can cause these fish to become unbalanced in the water. With the number of fish you have in your tank I would keep feed time to one a day with one day a week without food. A fast day gives their stomachs a rest. Peas are usually loved by goldfish and help their digestion too - give these one day a week. They can eat most other fruits and veges too - cook them first if they are too hard. I regularly feed mine courgette, cucumber and orange. Happy fishkeeping MCT
sharn
about the filters- i think you will find the UG just wont do it- goldfish are some super messy fish so you want a good strong filter. cleaning consists of taking out the media and giving it a good wash in a bucket of tank water- not tap water as this will kill all your bacteria you want. with the light its really up to you, you will find a light specifically for plants benefical if you have them. most people just use lights for viewing purposes
