Zedd
Hi there, I think my electric yellows are preparing to breed. The male has always been chasing the female around, so much that we bought another female to take the pressure off. Well yesterday they started behaving very differently, instead of him chasing and her running they were circling around each other. His colour has got extremely bright and she looks different too. My question is, do I just leave them to it or is there something else I should be doing to help them along?

Tropheus
DITO! Leave them 2 it If you notice her holding remove her after 10 days into another tank (same water) and let her do her stuff. If atfer 25 odd days she hasnt spat them just strip her and put her back in the main tank and feed her HEAPS

herefishiefishie
Hope all goes well. My only suggestion is to add more females. Frenchy
nickyboi
mine were doing this then the female started holding. After two days she had been giving such a hiding from the kenyi and male elec yellow she hid under a rock so much that she got stuck and the others finished her off, if the female is holding and in a fairly aggresive tank and you want either her or the fry to stay alive, take my advice and remove her into a suitable tank with same conditions and watch closely
herefishiefishie
Kenyi's are agro buggers, usually to much for a docile cichlid like a e.yellow. Also the males sort of don't get the fact that if a girl is holding she really can't breed any more & he will continue to annoy the female. That is why colonies are suggested,eg;1m 5f the more girls the better. or if its hard to find more girls, as said above, seperate female. GeeTee
My brother has two about that size,I'm looking after one of them, might have to put them together and see what happens. I reckon that its a male and female. Give it a few months and we'll know.
