Fay
Do you use the light sensor for less flow at night? I have been.

JoeBlog
Nope. Calfo recommends not to since we can't come close to replicating the amount of flow in the oceans anyway, so why reduce it from an already reduced amount. Also, quite a few corals feed at night in which the flow will be most beneficial.
wasp
Yes interesting question the ocean tends to be quieter at night. However it depends what you're trying to do, if growing sps, which do most of their growing at night, and since reading that fish in acros at night making water movement article, would probably make sense to ensure plenty of flow at night provided the fish can bunk down OK. Stops any detritus settlement also. But in a softy or similar tank, not such an issue.
Fay
So in my softy tank keep reduced flow at night O.K ta
wasp
I thought you have allsorts in your tank? But I know when I increased the flow in my tank for the sps a lot of my softies wasted away I had to remove them before they died totally. Trouble with a small tank, not able to have more than one environement.
Fay
Mostly softies
wasp
One of the prettiest tanks I've ever seen is softies only. A guy in the city who does not visit this forum. Very low flow, mushrooms almost dinner plate size.
Fay
Maybe I should turn my streams down?
cracker
You dont need that much flow in a softy tank. Imperative for stony corals. Fairly important for anemones though. (Medium flow)
lduncan
Soft corals love flow. Keep it pumping Fay.
reef
You dont need that much flow in a softy tank. I think you do need lots of current for leathers .
warick hearn
well my leathers love lots of flow...the more the better...three power heads and one seio....adding another seio soon...theres so much water movement at the surface that im expecting the water to jump right out of the tank.... warick hearn
if you go have a look at jansens reef the have a huge amount of water flow belting out around the tank and the tank has never looked better.
chimera
mine's at 100% for both streams during the day and 50% for one and 60% for the other at night.
Pies
Not using the nighttime sensor at the moment, no reason other than i'm not. I don't think its important one way or the other, but does give some options if you choose. Cool gadget rating of 7/10, practically rating of 2/10 Pie
