cracker
I went to get some NSW today and was a touch early, so I was playing around in the old rock pools. (by the way, some of these pools must have been 32 degrees I reckon). Well......looked under a rock and found a NZ pistol shrimp. Didnt know they existed here, but read up online and decided to thrown him in after careful acclimatising. I only had a plastic screw jar in the car, so I threw the screws on to the passenger floor and filled it to 3 quarters. I also added a crab which I hadnt seen before and put him in the jar too. I heard loud clicks and realised that maybe this was a pistol shrimp getting agitated. POWERFUL CREATURES, HE PUT A HOLE IN MY PLASTIC JAR, I COULDNT BELIEVE IT! REAL LOUD TOO! screw jars are quite thick too...amazing. Im not sure if he will survive my tank or cause me grief, but I couldnt resist putting him in!!

Ira
Most people spend a lot of time and energy getting those OUT of their tanks.
livebearer_breeder
When i was 8 and we lived in Tauranga, we used to get a bunch of (what seemed at the time) big ones under the rocks we played on, at the beach. Shae

scatman
I caught two of these for my trigger fish when i had a fish only system. I dropped them in after floating them in a bag . They had no problem with the heat and survived untill i removed them. They dig and move the sand and at night they are active. I removed them after my wife complained about the constant clicking of their claws. Luckily i did not have a lot of rock in my main tank to get to them
HelifaxNZ
That's pretty cool Cracker. Goes well with your name. Not a relative? All you need now is a Goby to pair it up with.
Feelers
At least now you dont have the deafening waterfall of a (non full-siphon) durso standpipe to get in the way of listening to your shrimps clicking.
suphew
Importers bring fish in to the country and QT them as much as possible. If you rely on their QT's and LFS's for protection you are a fool. they are turning over large numbers of fish all the time and cannot completely control all diseses. If you let a parasite in your system it is your own fault. Your own QT is the only way to guarantee it. I have learnt my lesson after losing 4 fish to the disease. So hows the QT going??
