Brianemone
What would you choose to have a school of in your tank??? (no tangs dont count)
wasp
firefish make a pretty, low bioload, non aggresive, school. Cost me $75.00 each at Jansens so I couldn't get to many, but they certainly work well in a small tank like mine.
Brianemone
you learn something every day, i didnt know that they schooled. they would look quite neat all lined up.
wasp
Just not sure if they would in a large tank. In mine there is little option, and in the wild they hang in a group, each close to its own bolt hole. But in a big tank they may spread out, somebody else will have to answer that. Brianemone
anthias are really cool but they dont seem to "school" as much as they hang out. chromis school really well but they might as well be cichlids at the end of the day
JoeBlog
I'm going to have threadfin cardinals (true schooling fish), chormis (which don't really school well), anthias (also don't school well) and chalk bass (which supposedly school). I would love to have Idols (but they usually die) or schooling banner fish (but they are a bit larger and thus poop more!). I want lots of activity in my tank with a minimal bioload. Pies
I've seen lots of Idols in the wild, but only in pairs, never seen them as a school. My perfect shoal would be Purple Queen Anthias, but not sure about their survivablity. Or maybee 50 bangaii Pie
Brianemone
bangaiis do look nice schooling but i thought that they fought lots if kept in more than pairs (in captive)
lduncan
longspine cardinals are a good choice. They are tight schoolers. As are other cardinals. Pies, JoeBlog has had some purple queens, they were looking good last time i saw them. They get fed live food which is the key for these fish I think. Pies
Awesome! JoeBlog how long have you had them? What live food are you feeding? What do you think my changes are of successfully keeping them? Pie

chimera
i saw a pic of a tank with about 10 chromis in it. a pretty plain fish by itself, but in a school, wow! was very impressive to say the least.
JoeBlog
I currently have a school of 11 chromis and they are pretty nice. I hope that they don’t slowly windle their numbers down.
