Deb
Hello all you fantastic fishy people!! I am sooooo pleased to have found your site and the support is awesome! I have just bought an AR980 and planted out 10 or so small plants, have a piece of bogwood and 3 small red snails!! (A huge tank for 3 snails!!!!) Hopefully soon I will actually have fish - not sure where I'm going with that yet but like the idea of community tanks. Will start with a couple of guppies first though? Good to see some contacts in my area in previous threads. Cheers everyone Deborah

Faran
Hi again Deb Guppers are fun, interesting and a great starter fish. You'll soon have babies to raise and a tank full of them. VERY eager to get food they'll give you tons of attention and follow you around the room. Advice for livebearers - add some sea salt to the tank. Approx 1 level teaspoon to each gallon (4.5 litres) or water. That works out to about 20 teaspoons for the AR980. Be sure and check out the chat room on these forums id you haven't done so already. There's a button that goes to it on the menu bar between "FAQ" and "Search". Most people go there around 9pm. Have you already checked for a local fish club near you? You're not really part of FNZAS until you join a club. Joining a club will introduce you to local hobbyists that will be able to help you with advice, equipment and even fish (at breeder prices - imagine paying $2 a guppy instead of $7). You'll also be possibly entitled to a discount at a local fish shop (LFS) on fish-related gear. Your fish club coordinator will be able to help with that. You can check here for a list of clubs and info. Once again, welcome and it's great having you with us! Look forward to seeing you around! Caryl
Hi and welcome Debs. The nearest club to you is Dunedin. Am trying to get other southerners to start one again in Invercargill. I know a lot of people advocate salt but I personally don't like to add anything that isn't required to a tank. Choice is yours though as you will get as many believers as you will disbelievers. There is certainly no harm in it. Whatever works for you! Capre: Perhaps you ought to get a good sized map of NZ and start marking the various places on it. That is what I like to do with members in other countries. I also like to look up a bit about their country.
Pegasus
Hi Deb, Welcome to the NZ Fishroom... glad you found us Seems like the South Islanders are giving us Northerners a run for their money these days, as more and more SI's are joining... Great stuff Good luck with the Goldies BTW.
Caper
You're not really part of FNZAS until you join a club Darn...how do I do that from here :-? Yes, that is a great idea Caryl...I think I will. The pictures that I saw on here...and in your photo album...your country is BEAUTIFUL...but then so are the people. It is obvious that you folks have big hearts
