Chickybabe
Is it possible to hinder the amount of water the impeller takes up. I have a 143.3L tank and discus in it, but they dont seem to like the current in the tank - where the water comes back into the tank after going through the filter on the top of the Jebo, is there anyway I can slow the reduce the amount of water that comes back into the tank??? I was told to put a stocking over the impeller but then the gunk (food, leaves, etc ) all get stuck to it. I also have a Fluval 204 external cannister filter in operation in the same tank, which is great as I can control the intake/output of water therefore slowing the current
suphew
It seems a shame to limit the filtering of the unit (s) try pointing the output at the sides of the tank. If you do have to slow it down try putting some filter wool over the inlet, this also acts as a pre-filter so you just have to replace this as it gets blocked and will make the filters last far longer before you need to clean them. Chickybabe
Yep I have a stocking over it, I have also tried moving the inlet to the side of the tank but it hasnt helped.
suphew
Filter wool will restrict the flow a little more than stocking plus catch alot more stuff, but will look ugly if you can see it. You could also buy one of those round sponges with the hole in the middle. What about putting a log or something in front of the output to slow the current down? You could also remove the bendy thing (assuming it has one) off the end off the output so the current goes straight down, this gives the added benifit of blowing the crud off the bottom and into the water so the filter will pick it up. Next best suggestion is to buy/make a spray bar.
BK
Talking to a rep from the states the other nigth about Discus keeping and how I'm loseing the young once they become free swimming. He said that any thing more than 1xtank volume an hour is more than what Discus like. They can be keeped with more than this but better results with less water movement. Sponge filters or UGF may be better if you could do water changes daily.
