rnbo
Can anybody tell me how long it takes to condition a new sponge filter by putting it into an existing tank setup?? I have discovered the filter I was running in the puffer tank is too strong for them. Blowing them allover the place....poor little chaps have been lying in the plants for shelter. I started conditioning a small shark filter in one of the other tanks yesterday and am wondering when it will have a good bio lode so I can transfer it over.... Any ideas? Faran
My 2 clicks - 3 days. I'm sure I'll be corrected soon if I'm wrong
Caryl
I like to give mine a couple of weeks to be sure. Would think 3 days wouldn't be long enough. Compromise and say 1 week 8)
madcookie
Yeah something will be there after 3 days. The longer you wait tho the better of course - possibly a week even? And...of course you mean the sponge is in the tank - With a pump pushing water thru the sponge... (If the sponge only was in the tank, it may take a couple of weeks...?) Caryl
Something will be there after 3 days - but enough? Depends on the fish load I guess. I assumed he meant the whole new filter was running on the existing tank.
madcookie
Hiya Caryl, am a slow typer....I started typing the reply above, but it endd up being posted after yours... Yes 3 days really would be pushing it. But better than nothing. And yes, re-reading the post, I think you are correct - The filter is a "new and smaller" filter - so is surely connected. rnbo
Thanks everyone for your replies...yes there is more than a sponge in the tank...thought the whole filter was best lol. I had a reply to a post I put on the dwrf puffer forum in the US and he suggested 2 week minimum...I think I may compromise and try it after a week (the tank its in is well established) and I'll keep a good eye on the water params. Anyone wanting to find out abit about dwarf puffers this is a great site! www.dwarfpuffer.com (Sorry not sure how to make this a live link) Cheers and thanks for your help.
