java moss

I have been given a big handful of java moss and i want to attach some of it to the wood in my tank. I have some thin nylon to tie tie it on with but (silly question i know) how do i do it?

Is it best somewhere near the bottom or top of the tank?

Do i spread it out on the log or just tie it on a clump?

Do i use all of it or just a small piece? And how fast does it grow? Is it a creeper that will eventually cover the piece of wood?

???

It doesn't really matter how you attach it as long at it isn't going to come loose. Just wind it round.

Java moss will do ok in low llight but is fine with more, it will tend to grow up, so maybe lower is better but its up to you.

Spread it out a bit, it will slowly cover the log but 'tends' to grow loose rather than creep over the log. For the best effect I would try and cover the whole area you want it to grow on, that way it will look nice faster.

Yep, I second what Suphew said. If you can. wrap it around before you tie it on because it does tend to grow upward.

Tie it tightly as it seems to catch dirt and uneaten food and needs vacuuming to keep it looking nice

I second that

best bit of java moss I have wrapped around a log (and it's a long log) is the bit sticking about 10cm out of the water... it looks fantastic :)

Stuff in the water is growing, but gets clogged with stuff all the time :/
