PENEJANE
I have got a new bristlenose since my other one died with in a week yet water was tested and all fine. I had the pet store test my water a few days before getting the fish and I would like to know what are the signs of stress so I can try and get it sorted before it got to far out of hand. When I got it I let it float for a good legenth of time before putting it into the tank. I have cuecumber this time and there is currently a piece in the tank (sat in water overnight) which I will leave there till tomorrow morning. Just like my first BN this one looks like its skin has gone all rough. Like goose bumbs I guess. No obvious marks, scrapes, cuts visible or anything just on its lower half of the body/tail it looks as if the scales are all slightly raised to give a rough appearence. Wether its just a camoflarge thing I don't know but would like to know what are the signs of stress. Cheers
guppylover2
penejane the signs of stress i have seen in BNs are just lighter areas as opposed to all one colour. but one of my bristlenoses does this a lot but still seems healthy, so i'm not sure. havn't seen the scales go all rough though. they do have armoured plates (hence the family name loricaridae) so if you look close it does look rough anyway. PENEJANE
they were just sold as bristle nose so I have no idea what actual family it comes from apart from BN's lol I have been watching it over the last couple of days and its taken to the rock cave and I have seen it come out to feed and seen marks in the algae on the rock which is a good sign I guess. Guess it was just stressed when I put it in the tank but it seems all happy and fine now

Its about 5-6 cms long.
HummingBird
If it is a male, you should start seeing them soon. One of my B/N's has quite rough skin like you describe and he seems to be perfectly healthy.
