Graeme Holden
I have a rather large tank that has a broken base sheet, the thickness is 12mm x 1070x600, do I need to use the same thickness of glass if I am to patch it, I thought that maybe I could use 6mm to fit inside the tank and seal, and another 6mm on the outside, basically glued all over , what's the opinions,, if I have a reasonably flat and stable base to put the tank on ( thinking of using my 3/4 inch flat steel table that I used to use for panel beating, and use a fairly thin sheet of polly
Lucid
I would hold off glueing it to the bottom on the outside of the tank as it will cause the tank to sit unevenly, and may cause more probs. MY OPINION I would just silicone a peice of 6mm in the bottom and then seal round the outside of the peice you have put in. B

Lucid
I have fixed to 2foots and a 3 foot with this method, but should be fairly std on larger tanks as well. B
Alan
Definately don't glass-over on the outside I've seen this done before, and the tank still leaked. Through the crack. Sameas you don't put glue over the outside of a crack either. Make sure the perimeter of the patch has a full bead under it. Then when the patch is glued in place, go around the perimeter again and wet-finger finish the bead. Alan
