DexterityJones
Hello Friends~! I'm not really sure how to start this, so I'll just run with it and see how it fleshes out. In a nut shell; 1.) I'm looking for a Blue Tongue skink, younger the better, from a reputable breeder. I live in close to Auckland and have been for a bit now, I'm from Canada and I used to keep poison arrow frogs and a leo, (can keep just about any ectotherm in Canada due to the extreme unlikeliness of them surviving the winter), I'm an Ecologist and married a Kiwi veterinarian, hence how I ended up here. So, as noted on what I'm trying to find, I'm also trying to find out how you fine folks get about building tanks and the like? I used to go to a glass cutter and get some aquarium grade glass and have them custom cut me some pieces then I'd just mush them together and away I went. That seems to be a rare or extremely expensive endeavour here, or am I just not looking well enough? since it doesn't need to hold water, I might just do a glass front and wood all around, yadda yadda yadda. Food? Where can I get the appropriate food stuffs? Live insects and the like. Are lobster roaches around here? Most likely not given Biosecurity and the like, but figured I'd ask. The rest of the bluey's diet is pretty easy to either A.) grow here (gotta love this climate) or B.) buy. I think that's it for now. Thanks for your Time
Adrienne
If you live in the Auckland region then you need to know that it is against the Auckland Council bylaws to buy or sell Blue Tongues in the Auckland Council area. This was an ARC by-law which has not yet been updated so according to the council still stands. They are pests. http://www.arc.govt.nz/albany/fms/main/ ... 0pests.pdf
DexterityJones
Aye mate, I'm well aware as to what the by laws are, and what are classified as pests species, as biosecurity is part of my job. Thanks for the canned response, but I don't live within Auckland city limits so my original inquiries still stand. I was just giving folks here an idea as to where in the country I approximately live, without giving away too much information.
