Luke*
How hard do you think it would be to find a mate for it Kim? Do you have any possibilities lined up??
Snowman
They are an awesome fish, got a spare $400 for one Mystic. One of the dearest plecos around. They seem to be made of Unobtanium. LOL
Luke*
Small price to pay for the best catfish in the world Also if you can produce and raise the fry it would work out a nice lil investment.
kim
yes it is so lovely, they are not that hard to breed its a matter of getting my hands on another one that will be the hard thing, the owner of the zebra said if i find a partner he is more than happy to lend it out to breed as its sad to think nz wont get any more of these magical fish
Snowman
Would be worth taking out a second mortgage as it would be an excellent investment and they are one of the most "WOW" plecos around. I wonder how many there are in lil ol N.Z.?
dan_from_nz
I think there would be a huge waiting list if someone did get them to breed (find a mate) I know I'd take severall. Why can't the importers bring them in any more?
Snowman
I think they can still be brought in but it's the huge price tag that puts them off, have heard someone will bring them in but at about $350 a piece and minimum quantity is 12, anyone got $4200 spare? LMAO
dan_from_nz
I rung a while ago and they rung the importers that said they couldn't get them any more, I read an article on the internet that they are hard to get hold of now as they built a damn or somthing in the area they were in and their diet was unique or somthing 12 isn't that many I think there would easily be 12 on here that were interested in at least one
kylefish02
The problem now dan is that they are banned from wild capture as they are on the cites list and therefore have to be captive bred and not too many people do this and the people that do sell in there own country and probably wouldnt sell overseas cheers
CatBrat
THIS THREAD on the Planet Catfish forums might be of some help as to explaining the avalibility of Zebra Pleco's (L046). Cheers, CatBrat.
Aquatopia
Hi I am amazed - i have just put a post about breeding corys and zebra plecs then i came across this thread. These wonderful plecs are available in the UK at between £25-40. This is the equivalent of $65 - $100. How much are they here? Are they on the Import list? If so - I wonder what the score would be about getting some sent over? Is that possible? cheers I would LOVE to breed these cuties !
CatBrat
Hi, The price of Zebra's has gone up by a huge amount all over the world in the last year or so. The price in the UK is now up around £120-180+ from what I have read. The price here (if you can even find them, I have never even seen one) would probably be $300-600+ each! And no they are not on any of the import lists. You would have to get the shops to ask the importers about it, but it has been tried before, with little result. Cheers, CatBrat. Aquatopia
Blimey ! Well I was going on the score say 18 months ago so you probably are more up to date than me. And to think I was offered 6 at £10 each once back home. Makes ya sick aye !
CatBrat
Tell me about it. I was offered (through a friend who shall remain nameless) 4 of them for about $200 each just a couple of years ago, but due to him not checking his PM box (not on this site) for about 6 months I miss out, lol. Oh well, it happens i guess. Cheers, CatBrat.
