morfin
If you have bottom feeders and mid to high level do you feed all of them every day, every second day, alternate etc? I have bristles, cories and md level fish and tend to feed different ones each day which means feeding something each day. But wondering if it would be better to feed all fish every second day, with veges for the bristles every fourth day. What do you do?
BikBok
My bottom dwellers are the Kuhli Loaches and butterfly pleco, and I guess the rainbow shark but he eats at all levels everyday. Also have a small gold spot pleco in another tank. I usually pop in sinking tablets every 2nd day , alternating between algae based, novotabs and the occasional shrimp pellet. A courgette or other vege piece once a week which takes a couple of days to get eaten. But certainty the Kuhlis and Shark manage to get plenty every day, they rumage around for the flakes and pellets that find their way to the bottom. As soon as I feed the NLS pellets to the other fish all my kuhlis come out (even in full light) and start searching for the left overs. morfin
Thanks BikBok, do you feed your mid to high level fish each day as well, or they every second day?
Sophia
I feed my fish every day. They get missed maybe once a month. When I had bottom dwellers I'd either fire in enough dried food mixed with water to get to the bottom so everyone had a shot, or would sprinkle stuff on top for the top feeders and chuck in a pellet or tab for the bottom guys. Some people only feed when they remember. I guess it depends what you are trying to achieve, I've still got fish that are not finished growing and there's a big group so I like to think everyone will get a bite to eat a few times a week. kinnadian
I like feeding top/mid every day, with 1 rest day on sunday. The rest day I find enables them to fully empty their digestive system, but it's pure speculation and some random opinions from the internet. Bottoms get the leftover tops and I also feed them sinking pellets every second day. Also if there is much left over food after 2-3 mins, imo you are overfeeding. morfin
There is usually nothing left after 30 seconds but their tummies look full so I don't like to give them more. Thanks Sophia re the pouring it in in water, that's a great idea. I will keep up with the daily feeds and up it a bit for the bottom feeders. I do two water changes a week so have no concerns re the bio load on tank
BikBok
Thanks BikBok, do you feed your mid to high level fish each day as well, or they every second day? the mid and top level fish get fed every day , and there's often a few guppy or platy babies about that need extra feeding. I fast the tank once a week followed by squashed peas to help clear their gut out.
