Snowman
Has anyone checked out the site http://www.aquariumfish.net They say they have used all types of filters and the Bio Wheel Filter is the only one they will recommend, does anyone use one of these and how good are they? They also state gravel should be 1/4" at most My thinking is that with that little gravel what holds the plants in? Most of my tanks are 3 times that deep or more and i dont have any trouble, any thoughts on why so little gravel? Cheers Shane
beachy
Hey snowman, i was looking at getting a bio wheel a while ago so i contacted my lfs, they seemed to think that they were an unnecassary item, if you already have good filtration i.e external cannister. I think that they would prob be quite good, not sure though, i would be interested to know if anyone uses one?
suphew
Ive heard that bio wheels are good but very noisy. I think a good trickle fither would be better, same princible (i.e. large air to water volume) but far larger media volume. To me its like comparing a hang-on to a external cannister. That little gravel is a bare bottom tank with a little cover to stop it looking ugly. I can't see how you could hold plants down let alone grow them. I suspect if they have plants they are in pots.
