newaqua
Hi All. Does anyone know of where you can purchase a 240v float switch that will essentially cut power to your pump, before it runs dry? I have found larger ones designed for drinking water tanks and the like, but nothing smaller that would fit into a sump. I found a float switch, but it was for a relay. Does anyone know of "the whole package"?
Phantom
Try element14 or rs components. E.g. http://nz.element14.com/durakool/fcnb37 ... -PD-NEW-ST However, they are far more expensive than a DIY approach.
spoon
i would be inclined to stay away from 240v switches its easier and cheaper not to mention safer to rig one up with a relay . also float switches being mechanical can fail for all sorts of reasons classic ones being snails in marine or freshwater
Phantom
The 240V one I linked is a sealed unit, works by tethering the cord to the side and allowing the angle of the unit to change as it goes up / down. Shouldn't fail, but is expensive.

Phantom
That one is actually for sump pumps, but it does need a 3" tether with room to move. There are plenty of other float switches on that site.
blueether
I would go with a relay and get a sparkie to wire it up.
