newaqua
Hello Everyone. I have been given an aqua one tank. The person that gave it to me has previously used something that has stained the glue blue. What I am wanting to know is, the glue which is stained is in the join. Can I cut this glue off with a blade? Obviously leaving the glue between the glass still there. The part I am talking about is: When you are glueing the glass and you run your finger up the seam, the extra glue that spreads out and makes the right angle 'smooth' (kind of semi circle-ish), if you know what I mean, rather than the glue in the actual seam. Does this 'extra' glue provide any extra strengthening? I am thinking not. Does anyone have any ideas?
Squirt
It's methylene blue, and IMO, just leave it as is, stick a blue background on it so it blends in?
Cricketman
Wouldn't bother. You CAN cut it out and replace the bead, BUT, if you are going that far, you might as well rip it apart and re-do the whole thing, least that way you know that it will last the next 5-10 years... Sophia
I have cut out the bit in the join on 2 of my tanks and left the bit in the sandwich.
alanmin4304
If you replace it and don't use meth blue it will go green instead with algae as the aquarium safe RTV has no mould inhibitors/algicides. Black glue is great if done well. When the shaking slows up a bit I intend to get a new replacement done with black glue.
