blueether
I believe that platys are ok with salt so for whitespot you could use between 3 and 6g per L of water (1 tsp ~6g) Table salt will make the water cloudy (anti-caking agents), I have used rocksalt on my natives. blueether
It is very easy to treat Ich with salt. You’ll need a concentration of 0.3% salt (3 teaspoons per gallon) to eradicate the Ich. To reach 0.3% salt you would add 1 teaspoon of salt per gallon of water to your tank 3 times, each 12 hours apart. Predissolve the salt in tank water and then add slowly to a high water flow area. It is important to keep track of the salt going into your tank because salt does not evaporate and is not removed with activated carbon. It is removed only with water changes. To keep the salt at the desired level, when you do a partial water change, you must salt the new water to the same concentration as the tank water. For example, if you remove 10 gallons of water you will need to add 30 teaspoons of salt to the change water to keep the tank at 0.3%. So 1 tsp / L is ~0.3% added over 24 hours. so weigh about 250 - 300g of salt and dissolve in water, add 1/3 of that every 8hours or so. You will need to keep the 0.3% salt for a good week, while doing water changes. I would weigh up another 250g and dissolve in water, do 1/3 w/c every day or 2 days and each time add in 1/3 of this second lot of salt (you could do 1/4 w/c and add in 1/4 of the salt mix). When doing these w/c vac the bottom of the tank.

blueether
yes the parasite embeds it's self just under the skin, can be on the gills as well. I believe that salt will work as well as any commercial product.

blueether
I believe that most (all?) fish can get whitespot, but some seem a lot more susceptible. Be careful not to stick the temp up too much, and remember that you don't have to up the temp
Sophia
Bird barn rubbish fish. Aaron, you have been having a few fishy issues over the past week or 2, some of which may be being caused by putting fish into uncycled tanks and general fishkeeping learning curves that a number of us have been through. Presuming that the fish were healthy when you bought them, it is unwise and unfair to publicly blame the seller unless you have some specific evidence that they were at fault. Please also refrain from swearing on the forum as it is against the rules, there are people of all ages and sensitivities reading and we like everyone to feel they can contribute. thanks
