what plants to get

Obvious suggestion would be plants like Java fern or Anubias.

To give a better answer we would need to know some more information.

What are the tank dimensions? what type and how much light are we talking about? what sort of substrate are you using? and what are you goals(what look do you want to achieve?)

the idea was suggested to created a planted apisto tank. the dimensions are 850mm x 50mm x 50mm. my plan was just to use normal shingle stones at the bottom. looking at a community style tank. something bright and beautiful. the light i was given with the tank so dont really know much about it but its 600mm long and is a T8??

Well that lighting is regarded as very low. 15watt T8.

You will be able to grow Anubias and java moss, normal java fern.

Most other plants will struggle.

If you were to add another light the same you could grow crypts easily. But would be best in sand or fine gravel.

with that light you really couldnt grow much, i have a similar light on my 54L tank.

as already mentioned java fern anubias, with low lighting you realyy wont be able to grow many bright colourful plants.

i would look into getting a better light but dont go to power full because then it becomes more complicated with more nutrients, co2 required for healthy groth and minimal health.

Bala crypts always did well under my T8, think 860/840? and my tank 600mm deep, and never quite clear...

I did have JBL balls and Dalton propagating mix, and used to dose flourish, though when i ran out and didn't bother to replace, there was no noticeable reduction in growth or off-shoots...

Cannot praise this substrate/fert enough for ease of use and maintenance...
