Rob Posted April 6, 2012 Report Share Posted April 6, 2012 I have great pleasure in announcing, in association with New Life Spectrum fish food and with the generous support of Hollywood Fish Farm, that our international speaker at conference is: Debra Dickinson. Debra is from Bayswater, Victoria and is a member of the Victorian Cichlid Society. She is an accomplished fishkeeper and breeder, specialising in Tanganyikan cichlids. Currently she has breeding colonies of seven different types of Tropheus (six of the types are wild caught), three different types of Frontosa, two different types of both Calvus and Compressiceps along with other colonies of fish we've never seen in NZ. Debra also hosts the website: http://www.cichlids.net.au - where you can view pictures and articles of/on the fish she keeps. A comment from one of the Waikato Club members who has seen Debra's setup: "I have personally seen her display and breeding setups and they are mind blowing." "...the most immaculate breeding setup I have ever seen." Debra will be covering: water conditions, colony management, breeding, nutrition and acclimatisation of sensitive fish. She will also be running one of the workshops. I would like to thank Hollywood Fish Farm for their support and also their long history of supporting our hobby. It is very difficult organising activities, catering etc when people leave these things to the last minute. If you plan to attend, and it sounds like it will be the usual fun, then I suggest you do so TODAY!! Details and registration form (and link) can be found on the Home Page plus were in the Feb AW. Throughout the weekend you wil be participating in a Top Club competition, it's all about fun and participation! Saturday We have meeting rooms teed up for the exec, but for kids and partners we will have a scavenger hunt, based in the central city and setup to be inclusive for all. After the meetings have wound up & the scavenger hunters are be back, you will get a chance to pit your teams aqua scaping skills against other clubs. This will be a dryscape, and we hope to have a kids section too. Saturday evening will see a fun evening with a variety of activities for you to enjoy and contribute to your clubs score. A kids room is available, to keep them entertained. Sunday is our open day everyone is welcome So far we have confirmed several speakers Covering areas such as Tanganyikan cichlids, aquarium lighting, water parameters, nutrition etc etc. There will be a car boot sale in the car park, you can sell pretty much anything fishy, with only a very small exhibitors charge. If you are a bigger operator, there is space for a stand in the main conference area, Pm me for more details if you are interested. We look forward to seeing you all. I can only make it on Sunday which says its open for everyone...do I still need to register or do I just go there and turn up? Conference 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 Report Share Posted May 15, 2012 There is a little confusion regarding the Sunday which is an open day. You do not need to be a member of any club to attend Sundays events with the exception of the tank crawl. If you are a Registered conference attendee, then all aspects are covered in the registration fee, with the exception of the Tank Crawl. You have preferential access to any events with limited numbers such as workshops etc You will also get Lunch and Morning and Afternoon Tea. You can register just for the Sunday if you wish, and get all of the above...or If you are a casual Sunday attendee its basically user pays. $5 to sell in the car boot sale There is no charge to browse the car boot sale There will be user pays charges to participate in the workshops and to attend any presentations from our guest speakers. We are still working on the exact fee structure, and speaking schedule as we are still waiting on confirmation from some speakers. Follow the link on the Main FNZAS web page to see the latest information. I am not register and I am not part of any club, but I am quite curious about this event!!! if I go and turn up on the "open Sunday" what activities I would be able to attend? how much is the cost exactly?
