Did anyone get any of these from the lasy shipment.

I have not yet had a chance to buy some but I was wondering if anyone did and especially if anyone got a pair?

I wonder if its time to do another one of those 'Who has what Apisto' type posts?

For me

A. agassizi (20 + adults all females)

A. hongsloi (2 x females)

A. trifasciata (1 adult male and 10 - 15 fry which all look like males)

Apistogramma trifasciata (trio)

Apistogramma macmasteri (trio)

I am picking up a "pair" of pertensis from Organism on Sunday, and also a nijsseni female (I'm swapping my three male orange flash cacatuoides because they are starting to get a bit aggressive). I will see what Redwoods has too. It would be great if they had a male nijsseni. BTW the female nijsseni I'm getting from Organism is simply stunning !drool:

Wouldn't count on Redwoods having apisto's at the moment. Been a while since their last import and they didn't bring in any in the last two imports.

I was talking to Jennifer and she thinks that they should all be fine in the same tank as they are all very different types. Also its kind of like Africans - the more in the same tank, the more the aggression is spread so these guys should all be fine together.

Also for anyone who is interested, Organism has a male hongsloi left and Petworld has a female. I asked Petworld if they would sell me the female but they said that they weren't sure if it was for sale or they were looking after it (there was no sale sign on the tank) and that they would get back to me but I'm leaving tomorrow. So if somebody in Christchurch wants to ask about it then it may be worth it.

They may be ok in the same tank, but I would think there would be some aggression between them all as they all compete for the same space in the bottom of the tank or the prime cave etc to try and breed in. Apistos are completely different to africans, africans live in large schools in the wild apistos are relatively solitary only really coming together to breed, while it would sort of achieve the same thing if you were to dump 100 apistos in a tank to spread aggression it wouldn't really with a few pairs. Just my 2c worth though :) I would be interested to hear how they go, I would also suggest it is allot of money to spend on some really nice fish when you wont be breeding them and the odds of them apistoing are quite high.

pics?

Maybe in a few day's time once they have settled in. They are in a poly box right now.

Ryan I will be breeding them (well at least providing the fish with a suitable breeding facility. The reproduction is up to the fish...) Jennifer suggested that I move the trifasciata out of the breeding tank and use it as a quarantine tank for the new fish from Organism. Once they have been quarantined I will put a partition in the breeding tank and have the hongsloi and agassizii each in a compartment, and then afterwards the trifasciata and macmasteri if I breed the first two.

Been thinking about what you have said Ryan... Thinking of just sticking with the agassizii and hongsloi. That way I will have four species that are definate male/female pairs to focus on. The nijsseni (although I really want her) is unnecessary, and the pertensis aren't a guaranteed pair, most likely two males. I will have a look at them again at Organism tomorrow.

I would agree with Ryan here. I think that with your tank space less is definitely more. Also think about what you're going to do after you've spawned them. It's not that often you get good parents so in order to raise up fry you need a separate tank for them. You can remove the parents and put them back with the others, but then you've got an aggressive breeding pair being mixed with the rest.

OK I'll just stick with the hongsloi and agassizii. Won't bother with the nijsseni or pertensis.

The macmasteri are very peaceful even when they spawn from experience. They only chase away fish immediately around their area (when spawning), but they aren't too aggressive when doing so. When I got the cacatuoides the macmasteri didn't bother them at all. I have also heard that hongsloi are very peaceful. Trifasciata I've found to only be aggressive amoungst themselves and I haven't found them to bother bigger fish at all.
