fishy-fish
If I had these two species in a community tank, would they be likely to interbreed? I'm keen to add both these species to my 540L malawi tank, but if needed I could but one or the other in the 200L tank I just made. Recommendations please :spop:
Tropheus
Yeah Iam sure they would given the opportunity. I have a Livingstoni male trying to breed with my fryeri females. While the female Livingstoni, who lives amongst males peacocks, had breed with one of the peacocks and went to term. I stripped her after 3 weeks and fed the fry to my altos. ryanjury
Yes they will interbreed they are the same family and females are very similar, males of these 2 species also don't get along very well due to being similar. All mouth brooding cichlids can crossbreed some more likely than others, only way to guarantee pure fry is to breed in species tanks. fishy-fish
OK thanks. Looks like I'll have to go single species at least for one of these breeds if not both and maybe have a male in the display tank for colour splash.
