CodKing
Hi all, I've got a project I'm starting in a few weeks and I'm looking for anyone who is keeping or breeding Bolivian Rams. Eventually this topic should go in the 'private trade and exchange' as I will be in the market but at this stage I'm looking for opinions and experience. My goal is to keep 6 or 8 in a Vision 180. I wouldn't mind a spawn or two but I have a couple of questions. Are they prolific breeders? ie, will my tank end up being a bunch of angry mums and dads with kids running all over the place? Could I keep more than the 6 - 8 I have in mind or am I already pushing it? What kind of water parameters have you seen good/bad results? Thanks for your help! Adrienne
I have Bolivian Rams and have had 3 breeding pairs in a 240 litre tank. I found that in general the pairs kept to their own 'patch' ie one on the right hand side of the tank, one in the middle, and one on the left. They spawned every couple of weeks for about 2-3 months and the males tended to fight if they got too close to each other. Spawns were large - about 80 per pair each time. The issue I had was that once the fry were about 1 week free swimming they would disappear. I solved this by syphoning the fry out after they had been free swimming a couple of days and raising them seperately.
CodKing
Cool, that sounds manageable. Thanks for the input.
