shiuh
wanting to know how to speed up the growth rate for guppies gry.i have tried these for raising them: a large 3 foot tank a good external filtration system (that will not suck up the babies) constant supply of air a temp around 29C 20% change of water every 3 days food: baby powdered food baby brine shrimp the fries are just started to get their colours on their tails. is there another better way to enchance the growth? i just cant wait.... HummingBird
heheh yeah they're not for fish :-? . They just enhance your natural anabolic process which means your muscles regenerate faster which means you can work out more. They're also illegal to use if you're not prescribed them. Scary. Luke*
I would suggest a barebottom tank, twice weekly water changes, and feeding 3-4 times daily. This keeps the tank clean, and the fish well fed.
shiuh
barebottomm tank...done that...fed 6 times...they are damn fat!! how long do i have to wait until they are fully grown? 6 months?
livebearer_breeder
if your feeding in a barebottom tank i suggest you feed huge amounts of BBS to ur guppy fry, i have been feeding 16 guppy frysolid BBS twice a day, in huge amounts for growth experiments, they are in a 300x300x200 tank and are 2 weeks old, 2cm long and already have most of there colour! RoninBoxers
Thats impressive growth! I guess it must be possible. I have week olds that are about 12-15mm I'll be wrapped if they grow as fast as yours shae!! Personally I want them to grow fast so I can start to cull!!!! I've got over 40. livebearer_breeder
You want them to grow fast so you can cull them? well there now about 23mm long and colours are really strong now, i can already differentiate females however this could change as they grow. Shae
RoninBoxers
Well, you can't cull them until they are getting big enough to assess. Size, fin shape & quality, colour etc. BTW cull doesn't necessarily mean PTS, it can mean sell, rehome etc.
livebearer_breeder
Well it means to kill or remove but NTL, You dont grow guppys just to cull them, do you mean to start doing selective breeding and wot not? Shae
Peter McLeod
Increase the temperature to 26 degrees, change the water as often as possible with well aged water.Warmer water holds les oxygen so airation is important.Bare bottom tank is essential for easy cleaning.Feed at least three times per day. Finely crushed flake as much as the fry will eat When they won't eat any more flake then give them the brineshrimp. Increasing the temperature and feeding the fish more will make them age faster so you will be able to get through more generations but the fish will also have shorter lifespans.
