SHRPLS
I bought this guy with two others yesterday from HFF. Both of his eyes are cloudy and he seems to be blind. When exploring his new home he just kept on swiming into everything. He has since setteled in but does not hide in the same spots as my other Striata's. Instead of going under the rock caves he just rests on top. If he is close to the glass and I move my hand next to him he does not flinch at all. All the other loaches run for cover. He also does not seem to school very well like the rest do (5 in total). Apart from being unaware of what is going on around him he seems happy and is starting to graze in the sand etc as normal. The wierd thing is that his eyes seem to move as normal. He is starting to get a bit more colour in him also. My question is, could this be an invection of some sort and could it be spread to the others or is just a defect in the fish? I called HFF and they said just bring it back and we will have a look at him. They said they would replace him no problems. But if he is just blind then I want him to live in my tank and not get destroyed. I am currently trying to fix my BBA problem so please don't judge :slfg:

wee2
My question is, could this be an invection of some sort and could it be spread to the others or is just a defect in the fish? surely from stress once new fish enter a different community with different water temperature, fish ,.. cloudy eye could be worse if dont treat it probebly. it could be spred on the fish itself dosent influence other parties. my texas only got a cloudy eye at the beginning with no signs of getting worse to me but laterly it became a poped eye and then cover by a 'tumor' alike meaty thing. I am traeting him with Melafix, seasalt, stress coat+, formarin and Furan 2. Now the tumor is popd open, which I think it is a sign that the wound starts healing. how ever the eye is apparently lost. so get it sorted be4 it is totally blind. SHRPLS
Thanks for the info. I will watch him closely for the next week and see if it improves. I first noticed it when I was still acclimatising them to the new water/temperature. Just funny how the other two in the same bag were fine. Maybe this one is a wee bit sensitive huh? My water conditions are good. Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, Nitrate 5-10 and PH is 6.4. PH is a little low due to Wood and Co2 input I think. Edit: Should I perhaps do a couple of extra water changes or would this stress him more maybe?
redracer77
I am currently trying to fix my BBA problem so please don't judge :slfg: What are you using to fix the BBA? Flourish Excel? Could you have got this directly on the loach? You could try a drop of wunder tonic directly on the eye as per this post http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=39643&p=431613&hilit=cloudy+eye#p431613

I have cut my lights by an hour and dose excel along with DIY co2. Too much light and not enough co2 . The loach had the eye problem while it was still in the bag from HFF. Noticed it before any of my water touched it.
