Matto
i stripped a female rusty and got three tiny little cuckoos in amongst her eggs! hopefully they survive in the tumbler and i had better get some brine shrimp going!

Matto
yea i am planning on it but quite a few of the eggs are infertile so i will need some brine shrimp when they have eaten all the other eggs .

Matto
cheers guys  i have just borrowed another 210 litre tank and i am planning on separating the cuckoos and my red empress but the red empress have never even spawned as the male has only just started maturing everyone says use the haps and they spawn with haps in the wild but i have 13 decent sized rustys in need of a bigger tank and this brood was with a rusty so would it be stupid to consider useing them as hosts or go for the empress even though they havent spawned ? my azureas are not the best of holders and the red empress are larger anyway :dunno:
ryanjury
If the rusties are working keep using them.. Empresses can be painful and they can take a while to mature and females to hold successfully.
Matto
i had a cuckoo fry in my azureas hold last week but they all died in my tumbler for some reason &c:ry i think they will spawn with just about everything :dunno:
Matto
well i just found my cuckoos on the bottom of the tank and the 40 rusty fry in the tumbler all dead &c:ry luckily the cuckoos were still alive so i chucked them back in the tumbler ,they have no eggs to eat now but i have brought some bbs today and have a holding yellow if i get desperate

Matto
could only 3 eggs have been fertilized?
smidey
possibly but i think they would have gone mouldy if they weren't fertile.
Matto
None of the other eggs survived so maybe
