tank reinforcement

Hi Everyone,

Me & Monique have brought our second tank,yes it's addictive! But this time we are going to run a tropical community tank, the tank is made from 10mm glass but it only has one center brace at the top,do we need to add more bracing at the top ends of the tank,tank litres are approx 430 the downside the tank has never been filled so we have been told any help will be most greatful. :thup:

What are the dimensions?

Tank sizes are 1420mm long,510mm deep,580mm high Cheers Alan

With that length and height I would do away with the centre strap and use Euro bracing. This is a strap about 40mm wide on edge that goes right around the top and often the bottom of the tank. This takes the flex out of the long glass panels and gives a double bond at the bottom where the pressure is greatest.

Yes that makes total sence and easy to do, also alot easier to clean the tank,again thankyou Alan for valved help.

What I do is slope them down into the tank slightly so condensation runs the right way, put them about 6mm below the top so the lids fit flush and make the long back strap a bit shorter to allow for heater wires and filter pipes. A lot easier to do while the tank is new.
