also will be stuffing it with silkworm pupa as well.

main diet is prawn stuffed with

silk worm pupa

massivore

jumbo carnistick

freeze dried krill and live locusts.

i am gonna pump this beast up!!

sorry ally, could not resist and reflecting on what others abroad feed - pellets seems to be the minority, so if they can get good massive fish, i can too:D

Maybe they would be if live insects were cheaper lol. Any chance of getting superworms in NZ? Our mealworms are so tiny... Even after pumping them up they're only about half the size of superworms.. :(

Yeah Ive been dreaming of more cost effective live food for some years. Would be nice to say the least.

Superworms have been in NZ (some claim for many years), but authorities claim theyre a new organism so -at this stage- not worth keeping imo.

Mealworms are ok, size isnt everything when it comes to live food. But it can be, too big = potentially lethal, too small = no real harm, just extra work/stimulation for the predator which is good as long as they arnt so small the predator loses interest. Lots of small feeders, is much better than one big feeder imo.

Can get freeze dried superworms in nz. think hff stocks them.

Nice fish Henward.

Definately needs to grow into its colour. Nice shape already but will be worth the money once it gets the deep red look - the current stock is the best you have had IMO, will be interesting to see how it develops.

im not planning on adding anymore.

maybe more clowns when they get large enough in my grow out.

might try mixing fire and TT eel, some say overseas that its not possible, but when asked, they have never tried it, i tried asking someone who has firsthand experienced it not working... no one i can reach so far.

a guy has 5 spiney eels, says he has NEVER had issues! so long as they are ont agro to begin with, he says that same species tend to have more agro with each other, but different species dont.

who knows, i just got my fire eel today. and an apollo9 shark, was cheap:D see how it turns out, may put with red.

yeah, nice shape, and colour i reckon for its size.

according to 007 - this fish he was going to keep as it was extremely nice and showing 'colour promise'.

from what i can tell, the deep redness of the fins - and darkness of scales determins the contracts of the red later in life.

we shall see:D

lol where did that come from fraser?

INSECT DIRECT:

yeah, its a shame, would love super worms, they are much bigger than mealworms but i found mealworms were also good for enlarging fish!

but i cant seem to breed them anymore as i get mites and my garage is too h umid!

but when they got to a big size, i just froze them. the fish still love them frozen. and thaws instantly as it gets into the water anyways.

To be honest, i do think the fish got very nice color now but I told you need to keep it in right way... I do not think that fish even could show is 60% color after one year in your current tank(I watched the video)

eliminate moisture and the mites should go away. not good raising mealworms in damp conditions regardless of mites.

mealworms are cheap enough per 1000 from biosuppliers. i no longer bother breeding them for my own pets, as much easier to just purchase some and grow them on a bit if need be.

i hardly use mealworms in general these days though.

id love to see an aro rasied on crickets, locusts, slaters, roaches, worms etc, more so than i would mealworms.

frogs fed on crickets daily: grow like nothing ive seen before.

Hi King

just wondering why after 1 year you think that the fish wont show 60% its colour in my tank? after watching the video.

what aspect of my tank is there that will INHIBIT the colour development?

haha

yeah, im gonna use the feeding formula that created the monster RTG.

prawn with shell stuffed with massivore, and hikari jumbo sticks.

jumbo sticks is more for colour, massivore is for growth.

definitely gonna be part of its diet. its gonna have a massive growth spurt soon im sure.

The 30" red I was looking at has never been tanned or put under intense lights and still has really nice colour, obviously not as intense as it could be if it had been, or as deep red as the tweaked photos you see all over the internet of fish under very specific lighting, but still very nice. The genetics are what will give it good colour, lighting will only improve it. I don't think it matters how the fish eats them, if you're stuffing shrimp with pellets or feeding them by themselves, but a good varied diet will be key to a healthy fish. I'm not sure how many mealworms I'd want to feed, the ratio of hard shell to good stuff seems pretty poor to me. Larger superworms would be a bit more juicy, but I certainly think there are better foods [than mealworms] for fish.

007; what do you feed the centipedes etc on to get good amounts of beta-Carotine in them (more than pellets) to improve the red colouration of the fish?

I understand and believe you have a most genuine reason for your comments and help, i am just wondering why you dont believe that my tank will bring out colour -

is it because of the tanning lights?

yOu aske dme to put them on straight away, and i have not yet put it on.

is that the main reason?

that is the only thing i didnt do - everything else is really general fish care :D

just want to know
