REEVESTA
Either it was david r or henward that was claiming that the texas cichlids in Newzealand are not true ones? :dunno: If so what is the name of the spiecies sold in NZ?

REEVESTA
Has anyone kept them? how agresive were thhey?
David R
Fairly standard CA cichlid fare, aggression depends on tank size really. Wouldn't bother trying to keep anything more than a single male or pair in an average 4' tank, but in bigger tanks they can be successfully combined with other robust fish of similar size. Certainly wouldn't advice keeping a m/f pair as part of a community though! Great looking fish when they get a bit bigger, hopefully Duncan7 will post some pics of the big male he used to keep. REEVESTA
What is their temperment like compared to a convict?
David R
pound for pound not quite as nasty, in a decent sized tank (500L+) I'd say not too different to an oscar, maybe a little more territorial. Individuals do vary though, the LFS in Whangarei used to have one (mistakenly identified as a Jack Dempsey and therefore called Jack) in a 4' tank that was a serious glass banger, wouldn't tolerate anything else in the tank and tried to attack anything that walked past. Smidey or Snookie or Mcculloch might remember it, that fish was one of the reasons I fell in love with big cichlids...
