Some were more colourful versions of Trimacs with better patterning but still all the attitude, while others developed larger nuchal humps. About a decade on those humps are getting seriously large – too large – and short bodied fish are also being favoured (which are missing vertebrae), but the unluckiest of all get their tails chopped off with no anaesthetic! David R Posted May 14, 2011 Report Share Posted May 14, 2011 General consensus on MFK and other international forums is that unless it comes from a quality supplier who can ensure its origins (Jeff Rapps, for example) then its a flowerhorn. There are obvious signs (like the pearling) that indicate low-grade FH and not trimac, but there are some very trimac-looking FH's out there, which is why its safer to assume they aren't the real thing unless you know for sure. Shame really, IMO trimacs are gorgeous fish and I'd love to keep a big stocky male as part of a big CA community some time. Apparently they were here a long time ago (before FH's were around) but I'd say your chances of finding a true one here now are slim to none...
