wilson Posted April 19, 2011 Report Share Posted April 19, 2011 so im culturing some fruit flys in a mixture that i got a recipie for on the internet 1 part sugure 2 part milk pouder and 3 parts instant potato mash to 6 parts water its been going for about a week now but is starting to smell like its fermenting is this normal for fruit fly cultures? the adult flys seem to be fine it there. The commercial ones use agar agar to make a firm media and a presevative to prevent fermentation and mould growth. If the flies are OK --no problem.
