Brewerchch
hi all, i was wondering how you would go about cleaning the sand in a tank, i'm assuming a gravel vac would just suck it up? :dunno: thanks
blueyes
I just hold the vac slighty above the sand, still sucks up some but only a little.... I also use a fork to rake up the sand a bit so it doesn't get dead spots lol
suphew
Gravel vac works fine, just put your finger over the end to control/slow the flow
David R
But then you'll end up reducing the flow so much it doesn;t suck up the big bits of waste (depending on how big your fish are!). Best thing to use is a hose with a piece of rigid PVC in the end so you have more control and don't need to get up to your elbow in the tank. You'll never be able to thoroughly vacuum it like you do with gravel, you just suck the crap off the top, stir it, let it settle and repeat. suphew
I gavel vac sand all the time, it works fine with a normal vac. You will get lots of very fine dirt in there, the heterotropic will do this. But the best way to find out is not take my word for it, just try it.
