burrowssj
I am slowly but surely rounding up my baby peacocks that are left to pass them on to a new home seem as 2/3 tanks was broken in the quake I've got 2 batchs of babies in the same tank, some have barely grown at all an are only 1cm an most have grown to about 2-3cm the random thing is I have 1 HUGE one, hes pushing 5cms now, and is at least double the size of any of his brothers an sisters. hes very playful an aggressive its really odd how big he is compared to the others of the same tank an batches is this a very common thing? :dunno: im tempted to keep him just to see how he grows out
smidey
that's interesting, any chance he could have been from an earlier batch & you didn't notice him? i have found growth rate differences between fry & species alike but nothing that major. the red zebs i had grew twice as fast as the peacocks i kept & all species i have bred have had fast growers & runts but that can also be down to the attitude of each fry, keen & aggressive feeders always grow faster. Jennifer
I saw this with some of my fry that survived some quake dramas. Some were stunted for quite a while but then when things settled down, they all grew up normally. I don't know if there was a real correlation, but it has never happened before, or since and I had sent some fry to someone else out of town and they all grew up normally - control group I guess. :dunno:
burrowssj
hmmm it could have something to do with earthquake seriously he is twice as big as the next biggest baby... an its getting to the point where he can probably eat the smaller babies  Now that I think back to the fry tank(now broken) there was always 1 bigger than the rest, Straight outa mothers mouth within the first week I noticed 1 that was definitely larger than the other 25... I wonder if its the same fish? so hes about say 3 months old now.... an hes already have the size of the adults if not 2/3 the size very weird Il try get a pic for you guys so you can see how huge he is compared to the others (p.s your krib "big daddy" is starting to get a fat belly  )
smidey
i had a female pick up some free swimming fry thinking they were hers when she had eggs, they were red zebra fry & the female was a peacock. it may be the same batch or there could be a weird explanation for its greater size. burrowssj
hmmm thats an interesting thought as I have 2 females, He wasn't always huge, but he was definitely bigger it seems he just eats more an does more swimming than the others, hes always the first to the top of water an hes always bullying to get his feed first lol
