I was once told that ponds should be reserved for fish which are best viewed from the top, which I quite agree with. David R Posted March 15, 2011 Report Share Posted March 15, 2011 Yep, IMO for most tropical fish you're wasting your time unless its got a decent viewing window. Depending on the size, i think either concrete panels or concrete blocks would be the way to go. Ply and fibreglass would be good up to a certain size, but I think concrete is the best option for a truly massive tank. The biggest problem (IMO) is the height, unless you want a really wide and low tank (like I do), its going to require some serious engineering to provide enough depth for big fish like pacu (that can get to nearly 2' tall) to be comfortably housed. Probably the best example to follow would johnPTC on MFK, (look him up there or on youtube), but you'd need deeeeep pockets to do it right....
