lowndsie
I have a 300litre tank which is currently housing 7 jewel cichlids. The decor consists of many rocks piled together to make plenty of hiding holes. Of course the Jewels have claimed all their territories and are quite aggressive when one ventures into another home. I got the Jewels for free to help cycle the tank with the idea of getting rid of them and keeping a Malawi tank. Given that the rocks are silicone'd together, I have zero chance of netting them to move them out. My question is that I've just brought a Cyrtocara Moorii, Copadichromis Borleyi Red Fin Kadango and a Red Jacobfreibergi Firebird Peacock all around the same size as the Jewel's. Am I likely to have issues with the Jewels killing my new fish? or should I try and trap the jewels out before the new ones go in? Cheers,
ryanjury
For starters what water parameters are you keeping your tank at? Your malawis and your jewels prefer different water conditions.. They might get along ok but it is likely the jewels will give them a good hiding which they may survive but it will tear them up a bit, best chance of getting them to get along is to introduce the new fish at night and completely rearrange the tank too so all the territories are reset. All the fish you have added (well at least the dolphins/kadangos) are open water fish so they should swim around away from the rocks (they will outgrow your tank eventually too). But I would just get rid of the jewels.
