dragonz1833 Posted February 11, 2011 Report Share Posted February 11, 2011 please answer some questions i have in my main tank i got a filter,air pump (bubble wall),heater do i need air pumps on every breeding tank and fry holders? does anyone use these sponge filters they seem to cheap to me ??? in each breeding tank i have heater and filter gravel can i get away with oxy weed or do i have to get air pumps for evey tank ? thank you for your help not sure if im surpose to put this topic here or beginners thnks Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

acara Posted February 12, 2011 Report Share Posted February 12, 2011 You don't actually need an air pump at all. If you have the filters running so that they give some surface agitation to the water,then that should be sufficient for gas exchanges. I use a lot of sponge filters,and usually run them off a large airpump,as has been mentioned.This has a series of 'taps' and valves on the airlines,that enable me to adjust the amount of air going to each one.Running these sponges also does the job of what an airstone would do,ie,surface agitation. They are generally quite cheap,although it probably wouldn't be much use me giving you the sites I use,as I'm in Europe.I do use ebay a bit,and get kit out of Asia though.
