tjc
hi can anyone advise me the cheapest way of getting a constant ph of 8.2 in a 300 litre tank
ryanjury
You can use any substrate but just make sure you use coral rock or limestone or shells to get the PH up, 8.2 is probably recommended but it doesn't need to be that high, I have seen them happy and breeding in a PH of 6 but I always add coral rock (coral sand) or limestone to all my tanks and keep the PH above 7.5. smidey
don't get too caught up on the ultimate parameters for your fish. yes, if you can get it to teh perfect situation do so but sometimes you simply cannot get it there or maintain it. it is far better for the fish that the conditions are close to what they require but they are constant. swings in temp or ph can be really hard on any fish, africans i have found to be much more likely to be able to deal with altering conditions than alot of other fish. I keep mine in around 7.5ph & they do very well, just because it says on a profile what their ph needs to be doesn't mean they cannot do well in slightly differing conditions.
