matildanz
Will a change in tannin levels effect fish? One of my tanks at the moment is quite yellowy brown and is holding the majority of my fish, while my quarantine tank is clear and the cycling one is slowly turning yellow. I'm hoping to transfer all the fish from their current tank into the big one soon but wonder if the low levels of tannins will be a problem? All other water parameters match. Cheers
Jennifer
It shouldn't be a problem at all. Most fish enjoy living in tannin-rich water. That said, I have had to rescue a batch of fish that started gasping at the surface when I put in a new piece of wood from the LFS (even though it was soaked) but I think that is a bit unusual. Just keep an eye on the fish to make sure they still look happy.
David R
It won't be any more of a problem than any other change in parameters if you acclimatise the fish properly.
