oO SKIPPY Oo
over the last few days i have noticed that some newly bought neons have been disappearing, and i have lost 2 swordtails. I tested my water and everything looks normal, then this morning i checked on my discus and noticed they looked like that were laying eggs, on a closer look it would appear they have layed already much to my delight, could this be the cause of the dead and missing fish ? im not sure how aggressive discus are when looking after eggs etc
DEE
Hay there that's great that your discus are breeding, but i don't know if that's the reason for your missing fish because i have got my tank set up with 5 discus and allot of tetras including 19 neon's and my discus laid eggs about two days ago and the only aggression i saw was between the other discus hope that helps a bit
phoenix44
They aren't all that agro. Don't know about neons as I only have cardinals with mine, and nothing has ever been killed by the discus. Cardinals eat the baby discus though. phoenix44
Yeah, don't worry about it. They will make good parents when they are ready; and if you are really serious about breeding them get rid of all the other fish bar the pair. Then you'll need another tank for when the babies are big enough. Then you'll have to be prepared to do a billion water changes and feed them a trillion times a day! It's a miracle the fish are available at the prices they are to be honest.
