Mr McFish
I got two electric blue rams on Thursday and one is a bit skinny, it doesn't seem to be getting any bigger. I am worried it has worms but it is not showing any other sighn of worms. It eats fine though. Should I treat the tank with aviverm or something? or what foods can make it gain a bit more weight? phoenix44
Best to treat it, but in all likely-hood; from what I have seen, it won't be detrimental to the fish.
Mr McFish
I wormed them with aviverm, after seeing what looked like little white worms hanging out its anus. Just wondering is there something else I should worm with also?
ryanjury
They are usually skinny from the stores and can take some time to fatten up feeding good food always helps, but they might have works. Before you start dosing them up with everything under the sun have you finished the full levamisole treatment? And did the dose you have already given them make any difference? Are they eating well? Mr McFish
They eat well and have been putting on a bit of weight. I only dosed last night because I saw what looked like worms in it's poo. But other than that they seem healthy.
ryanjury
Just make sure you do finish the course of levamisole (2 treatments min a week apart) vacuum the gravel and all that good stuff you don't want to start getting drug resistances popping up.. If they are eating fine then I wouldn't stress too much about it, levamisole is supposed to be quite gentle and I have even read articles suggested it is an immune system booster too so it wont hurt. Prazi is also relatively harmless but I would probably want to make sure there was something wrong before treating with anything else.. Mr McFish
One of them now has little red worms hanging out it's anus. Will another treatment of levamisole get rid of red worms or is there something else to treat it with?
ryanjury
Levamisole or fenbendizole will kill that.. I would do levamisole first, did you worm them correctly the first time and do the right amount of treatments etc? Do you feed alot of live foods from outside? Daphnia and things like that? Mr McFish
I probally didn't treat right the first time. I think I left it to long between the two treatments. I feed them grindal worms once per day and stop feeding daphnia in case they get worms from there? because I get it straght from a water trough.
