caroldaisy3
..in my 120 litre tank. I have had suggestions of getting otos to help clean it up but someone has suggested it has been caused by overfeeding. Does anyone know if this could be the cause? phoenix44
is it a new tank or have you done an unusually large water change or cleaned all the filters well?
caroldaisy3
the light is on about 6 hrs per day. i change the water every week. have had the tank about 3 months so the filter should be okay i would have thought.
phoenix44
It normally comes about when there is an imbalance of nitrate and comes about with 'new tank syndrome' which is a normal phase. If this is not the case with you add more plants and increase the photo-period to about 8 hours a day. Supplement the plants with ferts too. A pic of the tank would help too. caroldaisy3
Here is a picture of my tank - I may have over exaggerated the number of plants I have in my tank - there is java fern and the tall plant at the back middle that I don't know the name of. I used to have a sword of some sort and twisted val but the naughty golden barbs ate and pulled them apart. I don't use an fertilizers or anything like that. Before I got this tank I had a 40L Jebo and transferred the media from that tank into the new filter when this one was setup. I do about a 30% water change weekly. i think i might be over feeding as there is still some food left in the tank after 5 minutes. Thanks
phoenix44
tall plant at the back middle that I don't know the name of. That is Ludwigia repens. Before I got this tank I had a 40L Jebo and transferred the media from that tank into the new filter when this one was setup how long ago did you do that? Reduce the amount of food you feed, and feed many small meals a day instead. More plants would help, but I stick to what I said about the imbalance of nitrate. caroldaisy3
Changed the tank 2-3 months ago. how long does the new tank phase last? Any ides on what plants would be best and would not get eaten?
malevolentsparkle
more light and more plants is my recommendation. brown algae doesn't do the whole photosynthesis thing and so more light will help the plants out grow the algae. if you have a problem with fish eating the plants (which surprises me, my golden barbs don't touch the plants) then things like amazon swords and crypts are pretty resilient.
