maoripho3nix
Not sure if this should be in DIY or Technical. Anyway.... Has anyone tried this? Or anything similar that would be beneficial in the same way, without buying expensive stuff like JBL Aquabasis. Experiences? Trials? Results?? Would like to know I want to use the idea for my tank as I have been givin some top soil, and would be cheaper to make and layer in my tank than buying something such as aquabasis. SamH
I just used regular soil, probably shouldn't have but we'll see how it goes. No heater, let alone fish

Bilbo
I have a 10 ltr bucket 1/2 full of mineralized soil but I haven't got motivated enough to start the planted tank yet.
markvs
I raed ?somewhere? that , to mineralise soil all you need to do is select your soil, wet it thoroughly, spread on black polythene or equivalent, to dry, (then break it up as much as possible to dust) then repeat 3 or 4 times, and hey presto mineralised soil. I guess the point is to drown anything living in soil, and wash away the organicy bits.
