barny trouble
I Have a beautiful red tailed female guppy, prolific breeder about 9 months old to a year. recently treated for velvet, off medication (pimafix) for one week with no signs off new fungal growth. ph 6.4, temp 26 degrees water changed 30% 2-3 times a week, in 40 litres with one other female and one male. all other water perameters are safe. over the last couple of days her ovipositor has become very swollen. she's normally in tune with the other female, dropping her brood within a day of the other female's lot, but she's now a few days late. could there be a blockage? any ideas? behavior is starting to change also, she feeds normally but has become lathergic hanging around in one spot for long periods of time. any help on this issue would be great. Thanks, Barny
ryanjury
I believe that female live bearers don't have ovipositors as that would be the device that female egg layers use to lay eggs with.. Anyway sometimes a baby does get stuck on the way out, sometimes it ends up with the fish dying due to the stuck baby not being absorbed or passed but going off causing an internal infection. The best thing you can do is to keep the water clean and maybe remove the female to her own quiet tank and hope that her body sorts out what is going on.
