ryanjury
People have had luck with 6500k energy saving bulbs apparently if you shop around you can find them..
aquadude
what does "6500k" mean?
phoenix44
6500 Kelvin refers to the spectrum of light. Similar to the colour of the light. different spectra of light have different colours. 6500K is white, 4000K is yellow.
ryanjury
It is the kelvin rating or colour of the tube.. I don't know too much about it so cannot really explain it google or forum search would probably find all the info you desire on the subject. Most of the ones you can buy are like a cool or warm white which are like 2700 or 4200k or something random like that, but you want to choose ones that have 6500k written on them. aquadude
thanks for that info question though.. with bayonet bulb, even energy saver bulbs..would the condensation from the water lessen the life of an energy saver bulb?? I was using just a standard 40w bayonet bulb and it only lasted 3 months - could this b cos if it being used for a tank Note..the water level is 4 inches from the water level Question what is the brand of the cool daylight model? thanks
aquadude
oops that meant to be the bulb and fitting is 4-5 inches above the water line
ryanjury
Water is going to lesson the life of any bulb or unprotected electrical item, do you have lids on your tank? Or any ventilation in the hood?
aquadude
the hood is a homemade metal one with the only ventilation are the large slots at the back( 3 slots approx 3inches square ) for the heater , and filter cords there is no lid between the water level and the hood the fitting for the bulb is on the back of the hood , not the top of the hood
