Simian
I think I have an Ikola holding, but she still is eating, I read somewhere that they have found food in stomachs of holding females, can someone confirm? She seems to be bigger in the mouth and rolling something, she also grabs mouthfulls of air occasionally. Next question to strip or not to strip? ryanjury
Congrats I have no experience with them personally but have heard they can eat while holding, all mouth brooding africans can some learn how to some don't.. I would strip, but if it is her first time it can take a while for them to learn to hold full term.
smidey
they do eat when holding, i think some of that is also to do with how their eggs are huge compared to other africans so they can open their mouths a bit more without loosing them. what size is she & is it first spawn? my trophs have held a few times (3 or 4 times) & not yet held eggs for any longer than a few days. if you get fry that you can strip i would, the sooner you strip generally the bigger the number. as their eggs are big they have small numbers of fry, a 6cm fish may only have 6 eggs to start with. Zeusterae
hey congrats, as Smidey says in the Tropheus is not strange that the females eats while they are holding (I have seen it in a Tropheus dubosis). good luck
