Matto
hi i have 3 holding yellows and i would like to get a egg tumbler can you purchase them or will i have to diy one?
phoenix44
Just strip them in a couple of weeks. Tumblers are a total waste of money in my opinion.
ryanjury
Yeah wait a few weeks and strip them. Ttumblers are handy if you accidently strip them too early or if you have a really hard to get fish that just wont hold full term. I have had very limited success with tumbling eggs from the beginning when I have tried it, I think the DIY tumbler I made wasn't suitable.. If you want one (and can't find one for sale) then just google and you will find tons.
Matto
i have limited tanks at the moment and two are ready to spit and one, the fry are still small with yolks
ryanjury
If they are ready to spit then they will? Otherwise remove the females and strip them then put the babies in their own tank..
Matto
i am worried about the one with the fry with the yolks because if i strip the others i will not have enough space to keep her and the fry separate.
ryanjury
Yellows shouldn't be too bad just make sure there is plenty of water movement.. If they are so under developed they are lying down then stick them in a guppy trap with an airstone to keep them moving, once they are free swimming then let them in with the older ones, provided they aren't like twice the size they should be fine
smidey
be careful of putting more than one female into a holding tank as they will protect their young & possibly bash or injury the other females. i just strip them around the 17 day mark & put the fry into a small tank or into a net in the small tank if there are larger fry already in there.
