Zayne
what is the best way to keep waters ph at around 6?
Bilbo
Start with softish water and then its easy to change with driftwood or leaves etc. If you are starting with hardish water then you may need something like the pH down or some type of acid like sulphuric acid. I don't like the second method much because it has to be done close to exactly right and also because most fish that want an acid pH also like soft water. I would start by adding some driftwood and alder cones and test the water over the next few day to see what its doing.
ryanjury
Good start here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=45745 And measure your KH of your water first if your KH is high then your PH wont go anywhere unless you start using the nasty stuff like Bilbo has suggested.. henward
IAL or Ketapang leaves are best reason is that you can buy your average lowering kits. but they are just lowering your PH by putting wood. Or better yet, IAL or ketapang leaves. you actually put goodfness into the water. most of all, nutrients and trace elements. calcium etc. believe it or not. i cured my six bars hole in the head with a mixture of melafix and ketapang leaves wtih a dash of tonic salt. it was early stages, but just shows how good it is. if you dont have a massive turn over of water with water changes. its relatievly cheap!
